If your child is ill it is important that you inform the School on each day of his/her absence. You will need to inform the School as soon as possible; but preferably before 8:00am on the School telephone number 0208 289 4745. Please leave a clear message spelling out your son/daughter's full name, form, the form tutor's name and a brief reason for his/her absence. You are asked to telephone into the School for every day your child is absent. On his/her return to school, a note must be given to their Form Tutor explaining the reason for absence. If your child is suffering from sickness or diarrhoea, he/she should not return to school until 24 hours after the symptom's have ceased.
Should your child be ill in school then he/she should go straight to the school office who will contact you should he/she be deemed ill enough to go home. Students are not to contact parents/carers by personal mobile phone before they visit the school office to report that they are unwell.
Please make appointments with doctors, dentists etc. out of school time. A note should be brought to school three days before the appointment and shown to your child's Form Tutor and a copy given to the school office. Parent/Carers should note that students who need to attend a doctor or dental appointment in school time should be collected by from school by a parent/carer.
In general, leave of absence will not be granted other than in exceptional circumstances, such as on compassionate grounds. An application for leave of absence must be submitted to the Headteacher on the following form:
Request for Absence Form
Unauthorised absences are those which the School does not consider reasonable and for which no leave has been given. The School is the authorising body for an absence.
Holidays in Term Time Without Permission
The Education (Pupil Registration, England) Regulations 2006 make provision for holidays in term-time only with the permission of the Headteacher. The regulations state that holidays in term time should only be authorised under special circumstances. It is the Headteacher's discretion to authorise a holiday. The School firmly believes that no holidays must be taken during term time.
Parent/Carer's should be aware that absence is detrimental to a student's education and staff cannot be expected to undertake work to compensate for what has been missed.
